Overview

This popular route is also known as the ‘Coca Cola’ route, the Marangu Route is in fact followed by ninety percent of all climbers. It has a well-defined path, which has been well set out to make them ‘climber friendly’. Accommodation on this route is inbuilt mountain huts providing adequate shelter and even bottled water, beer, and soft drinks are available.

Overview

· One day longer on the trek, climbing a natural, rather than manmade path, the Machame Route is a more demanding (hence, fondly christened the ‘whiskey route’) but much quieter and scenic route up the mountain. Overnights are spent camping in tents which are carried and pitched by the accompanying porters. Highlights of this route are the Shira Plateau, the Barranco Valley wall, and the Karanga Valley reaching the summit via Stella Point.

Arusha – Walking – Arusha National Park (full day)

A full day mountain bike safari inside Arusha National Park. This ride is designed to give you both a wildlife and cultural experience. Our guide will meet you at Rivertrees Country Inn in the morning and transfer you to Arusha National Park. You will enjoy a short game drive through the park on your way to Ngurdoto Crater from where you will start your ride. The ride mainly goes round the rim of the Crater with stunning views into the Crater. A ranger will accompany the ride since it is possible to encounter buffalo. Other animals likely to be seen are Colobus Monkeys, Sykes Monkey, giraffes, various birds species and a great scenery. The ride is partly on a gravel track and partly on a small animals track that can allow for some muddy riding. There are steep up and steep down parts during this ride.

This 3-hour ride will take you through the farming villages of Usa River as well as Tengeru. You will also ride a bit up the lower slopes of Mount Meru, into the lush farms of these slopes. Most of the tracks are in moderate to good condition. An experienced mountain biking guide leads the ride.

Trip Introduction

Approaching legendary Kilimanjaro from the south-west, we take the popular Machame Route, with a total trip time of nine days, thus giving us even more acclimatization time and an even better chance of reaching the summit. Lush rainforest and Alpine moorland characterize the Machame Route, a trek which is challenging, make no mistake, despite the extra time given to acclimatize. You will have a private vehicle to take you to and from the mountain. Accommodation on the mountain on this ‘Basic’ category trip will be in tented camps – a true adventure.
